1. STANDARD EQUIPMENT: Sherline lathes include the following as standard equipment. This means when you buy the Sherline Lathe, some accessories and tools are supplied as standard basic items along with the lathe that you have ordered. If you happen to order a package or some combinations, still these standard items will be supplied. Basically these standard items are just enough to commence your lathe operations. Through a careful research Sherline has come up with these standard equipment items for the first time starters so that they will right away commence the works(not loosing their fresh enthusiasm) without the need to look for them elsewhere.

This means you can use Sherline Lathe, for example, in USA, Canada, England, Europe, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, India without worrying about input voltage whether it is a 110v or 220/240v |

2. DIGITAL READOUTS (DROs): Some time you may wish to order a DRO (Direct-digital read out) to verify the machining progress continuously with respect to your requirement. If you are not using a DRO, what normally you do is: You stop the machining operation, take a suitable caliper or ruler or at least a measuring tape and measure on what has been machined and cross check that measurement with your drawing/sketch or the sample piece. Instead of you checking it manually, DRO display the measurement on a digital screen continuously while machining is performed {This is made possible by way of using sensors/relays (encoders)}. This may cut down the cycle-time (stopping-restarting-offloading-reloading...) and may prevent measurement errors and may improve overall machining efficiency qualitatively & quantitatively.
Any Sherline lathe or mill can be ordered with factory installed Digital Readouts (DRO). Lathes include 2 encoder hand-wheels on the cross-slide and lead-screw,. Mills include 3 encoder hand-wheels for X, Y and Z axes. Electronics box includes 3-axis LED readout plus an encoder for continuous readout of spindle RPM. DRO hand-wheels replace the standard hand-wheels, so in the case of the 4400-series lathes and 5400 and 2000-series mills, the DRO hand-wheels replace the adjustable “zero” hand-wheels. Electronics can be initialized to work with either inch or metric machines. 110VAC power supply arrangement for DRO is included. If you need 220V arrangement it is to be requested for the factory to modify with a slight change in cost. Machines equipped with DRO are denoted by the machine or machine/accessory package part number followed by the letters “DRO”. Please take note: DROs are powered by 110v input supply. In countries where, input supply is 220/240v, you need a step-down transformer (around 1KW range- a local typical piece may cost Sing Dollar 80 to 100) to bring down the supply voltage to 110v so that your DRO can function safely in tact. This arrangement can be done at Sherline Factory also with a slight change in cost. |
3. CNC-READY MACHINES: Any Sherline lathe or mill can be ordered with 'stepper motor mounts' in place of the hand wheels ready for the installation of NEMA 23 size stepper motors. (Stepper motors, drivers and software are not included.) Hand wheels are included for use on the rear shaft of dual shaft stepper motors, but the stepper motors must be installed before manual control can be achieved. Machines equipped with "stepper motor mounts" are denoted by the machine or machine / , accessory packages part number followed by the letters “CNC” Example: '4000 CNC' - this means, it is a lathe model 4000 with 'stepper motor mount' fixed at factory, in short it is a 'CNC-Ready' machine(and not a complete 'CNC' Machine. See the CNC Price List for additional CNC components like a driver box and stepper motors. Complete CNC systems(Stepper motors, drivers and software) including a computer are also available. B. SHERLINE LATHE AND ACCESSORY PACKAGES
Sherline lathes can be purchased with three different selections of most popular accessories. Purchasing a machine/accessory package offers additional price savings compared to purchasing the machine and accessories separately. The 'A', 'B' and 'C' packages are described below. Machines in these packages can also be ordered with factory installed Digital Readouts (DRO) or with 'stepper motor mounts' ready for the application of CNC controls. 'A' - PACKAGE: Lathe PLUS 3-jaw chuck and tailstock drill chuck. 4000/4100 and 4500/4530 lathes come with a 2.5" 3-jaw chuck and a ¼" tailstock chuck. 4400/4410 lathes come with a 3.1" 3-jaw chuck and a 3/8" tailstock chuck. Buying the A package offers a savings approximately equivalent to getting the drill chuck for free.
